Bill Ladewig's Blog: Nothing Changes Until YOU Change it

Nothing Changes Until YOU Change it

Is there one thinking person, of any political persuasion, who believes the Senate and House are NOT unfairly influenced by their need to beg for bank and big business dollars to get, or to stay elected? Is there anyone who thinks Americans will get a fair shake until that is changed?

Watch two short videos of deeply concerned senators and representatives and see what people in our political system have to say about what must change. Who would know better then men and women struggling in our corrupt political system?

Dialing for dollars or legislating? Legislators are forced by the system to spend much of their time begging banks and big business for money instead of taking care of the nation’s business. Listen to Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Arlen Specter (D-PA) and representatives John Larson (D-CT), Walter Jones (R-NC) and Chellie Pingree (D_ME)

Your Street is an initiative of Americans for Campaign Reform, a non-partisan, grassroots organization of citizens whose purpose is to help enact public funding all federal elections — for the House, the Senate and the Presidency.

Take Action now and learn how to add your voice to the American choir whose combined voices will make history by rescuing our country from Banks and big business.

I agree, Bill.  If it matters so much to drive you bonkers, then raise your voice to the people that need to hear it.

I am sure there are many out there that will agree with me on this comment: I have been more active about contacting senators/representatives in the past year than in my life!

Jane, what drives me bonkers is that our government has been captured by big bucks and the only way we will ever regain control is through public election funding.

Ruth, that is true for me also but if we remain quiet we will be in more trouble then we are already.

Me too - I even ran for public office myself this year, and it was real estate issues that got me to think about it in the first place.

Didn't win, came up 6 votes shy, but, I feel like I can really say that I am willing to do more than just whine about problems...

Thanks for the post, Bill.

I hope that everyone watched the tapes and clicked the TAKE ACTION button at the bottom.  "Taking Action" in this case is just learning more about how we can change a corrupt system.

David, congratulations on trying to make a difference.  The good news is there will be more elections.

Jim, very true, it begins here and the buck stops here.

Leilani, it is an eye-opener.  The men and women in the videos are serious people, deeply concerned.

Keep contacting out Senators and Congressmen. It does make a difference.

Geoff, in most cases contacting Senators and Congressmen is essential.  But in this case, most of them are slaves of the system and cannot afford to bite the hands that feed them.

As I see it, the only solution is to generate public support for National Referendum for public election funding.  That would happen by each of us spreading the word to as many people as possible.  The Internet is our path back to representative government.

HA!  I don't have to watch a video to know that the Congress is totally corrupt.

Hi Lenn, thanks for stopping by; your comments are always appreciated.

Twain said: "there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress." That will always be the case so we need to take our criminals out the hands of banks and big business and back under our control. The only way that will EVER happen is for public election funding. Will you help?

Bill, I just finished watching both videos.  My knee jerk reaction is to say that it is simply too far gone, but they are right - THE PEOPLE can make a difference.  While the money given for the campaign staffs and advertising might buy or sway an elected official's vote - THE PEOPLE exercise the right to vote.

Since last summer, I like many have become vocal - I have consistently emailed and phoned my elected leaders in Washington on matters important to my Family.  Most of them are sadly beholden to some group or corporate entity but not all.

I would like to see a day when a common man or woman who aspired to serve in Congress or the Senate had the opportunity to do so.  As it is, you have to be at a certain financial and social stature to even be considered.

The people will have to rise up eventually and take back the country. Both parties have long forgotten what they are even there for. We have created lifetime free loaders.

Bill,

Thanks so much for highlighting our videos and the issue of publicly funded elections. I couldn't agree more that congressional candidates shouldn't have to compromise their integrity to raise millions of dollars in their run for office. The Fair Elections Now Act would provide another option, where they could combine small donations from actual constituents with matching public funds. Thanks for highlighting it, and please do stay in touch!
